We have a team of dedicated Calf Specialists on hand to give you advice on all aspects of calf rearing. Our team have many years of experience between them, working with all types of rearing systems throughout the UK and Europe.

  • If you would like help and suggestions on setting up a new or modifying an old setup we can give some ideas.
  • If you are experiencing problems with scours, pneumonia, poor growth rates or just a want a second opinion our team will happily visit your farm to assist.

Below are just some of the services that we provide:

Growth Rate Measurements

It is important to understand how your calves are growing for many reasons and here are just a few as to why you should measure weights regularly.

  • Ensure you are hitting the targets to reach the optimum age at calving
  • Benchmark against the average for your breed, area and system type
  • Check that changes made to diet, housing, ventilation, group sizes etc are having a positive affect on growth rates

Our team will visit your farm on a regular basis to perform weight measurements and run a growth analysis programme to determine success or failure.

Powder Mixing Calibration

Whether you mix your milk powder, or another member of staff mixes it or you use an automatic milk feeder, you should regularly calibrate the amount of powder that you mix with water.

  • If you have changed brand or type of powder the weight and amount you should mix will have probably changed
  • If you have just received a new batch of the same powder that you always use, you should check the weight of the powder that you are mixing as density varies between batches.
  • Automatic milk machines with use will change the amount that they are dispensing.

Our team are happy to give advice on this or even visit regularly to check this for you and re-calibrate if required.

Scour Testing

Young calves especially in their first three weeks of life can often show signs of scours. BUT what has caused it to scour? There are many reasons why a young calf is scouring and knowing the cause is vital to provide effective care and treatment if required and to ensure that growth rates are not impaired.

Here is just some of the potential causes of scours:

  • Digestive upset
  • Cryptosporidium
  • Coccidiosis
  • E-coli
  • Rota Coronavirus

Our team is on hand to support our customers and can perform a test on farm, and provide you with an answer within 5 minutes. They will then give you recommendations based on their findings.

Ventilation Tests

Every farm has a different type, style and location of their calf rearing facility. Having adequate ventilation and no drafts is crucial for optimal growth rates.

  • Correct ventilation will help prevent disease outbreaks such as pneumonia

Our team can perform a smoke test in your calf rearing facility to make an assessment of its effectiveness. We can then give you advice on how to improve your ventilation system; whether it be through adapting the building or by introducing a ventilation system.

Housing Design

If you are looking to amend or create a new housing system for your calves, our team have extensive knowledge and experience with creating the best solutions for you farm and pocket.

We are happy to give independent advice and also show you some of the housing solutions that we supply.
